Join Walls Turned Sideways and Haymarket Books for a four-part political education series about abolition. This workshop is for folks with any level of knowledge about abolition who are interested in coming together to think about a prison-free future.

Abolition is not just about closing prisons or ending mass incarceration, it is a broader framework for asking what creates safety, what produces harm, who gets protected or punished, and what it would take to build communities organized around care, accountability, and collective liberation. If you are new to abolition or anti-carceral organizing or want to explore concepts you are familiar with in a collaborative and generative group environment, this workshop series is for you.

We encourage folks to attend all four sessions and will provide an abolition-themed book bundle at the conclusion of the series for all who are able to participate in the full series. Facilitators and teaching artists include Dave Stovall, Aram Han Sifuentes, Ana Navarro, and more and refreshments will be provided at each workshop.

In addition to these four public workshops, Walls Turned Sideways is also hosting a Fall 2026 Liberation Lab: Horizons of Abolition. Participants in this additional component  will read about, discuss and debate contemporary ideas abolition and also create banners representing a horizon of abolition that we are working towards. Artists and writers with familiarity and interest in justice movements and abolition are encouraged to apply for a spot in the Liberation Lab by completing this short registration form to request more information and share more about yourself.
