As the economic and political power of tech companies has ballooned over the last decade, tech workers have struggled for control over their work. They have fought against efforts from their bosses to deteriorate working conditions within their own sector and the political situation more broadly. Recent years have seen walkouts, public campaigning, and union drives. But at two shops–the New York Times and Kickstarter–unionized workers went on strike, testing the ability of software engineers, data analysts, designers and others to shift the balance of power within tech.
This panel is the first ever public dialogue between the workers who powered both strikes, recounting the history of their organizing and their own conceptions of effective strike strategy, revealing a real learning process and connections that tie both shops–and many others across the sector–together in a common fight.
Featuring Arleigh, Christina, John, Rohan, and Yuchen.
