Join us for a conversation between Emmaia Gelman and Sarah Schulman about Gelman's new book The Anti-Defamation League & the Racial State, a bracing history of the ADL's conservatism, anti-communism, and imperialism.
While the ADL is often portrayed as a defender against antisemitism and racism, Gelman shows that the organization is better understood as a proponent of the racial state and US empire. In this conversation, Schulman and Gelman will discuss how the ADL used its status as a civil rights organization to hamper more radical social movements--and how communities can fight back.
There will be a reception with refreshments after the program. Masks are encouraged for the safety of our speakers and guests.
